Whether you're a tournament professional or weekend warrior, St Croix Rods has a rod to fit your needs.  Popular actions include the 6'8” M XF for pitching light jigs with monofilament line and the 6'9” ML XF for working blade baits with hardline.  Matching the correct rod to the presentation is KEY to consistently catching BIG walleyes.

Most fishermen know there’s more than one way to catch a fish.  From the most basic jig and minnow combo offered in a vertical presentation, to casting crank baits against a rock pile, to an ultra-light plastic tipped jig pitched up shallow in the trees; to most fishermen, the possibilities are nearly endless.  Pitching, casting, rigging, jigging, and trolling all have their time and place and equally important is the rod used for each presentation.

For a vertical jigging presentation using monofilament, we’re typically looking at a 6 to 6 ½ foot with a medium action and fast to extra fast tip.  The St Croix 6’3” MXF rod is a perfect example having enough backbone for big fish and the extra-fast tip to quickly pick up line slack upon hook set.

In most pitching presentation, a 6’6” to 7’ ML or M power rod is perfect.  When pitching baits using hardline, the 6’6” MLF or 6’9” MLXF rods work fantastic.  The ML power helps absorb shock and head shakes and the fast/xtrafast action allows you to accurately present your bait without being overaggressive.  When pitching baits using monofilament, the 6’6” MF or 6’8” MXF rods are highly looked upon.  Similar to the others, the fast / xtrafast action helps in properly working your bait in the strikezone, and the Medium power helps compensate for the stretch properties of monofilament line.

When rigging and trolling, a 7’-10’ Medium power rod is recommended.  The 7’6” Tidemaster has long been a favorite used by top Mississippi River guides.  The medium moderate power has enough flex to absorb the shock of BIG fish while the fast action allows the angler to easily read the tip to ensure their crankbait is running true.
